FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWS MEDIA CONTACT: August 11, 1999 Meribeth McCarrick at (202) 418-0654 WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATIONS BUREAU ANNOUNCES COMMERCIAL WIRELESS DIVISION PERSONNEL CHANGES The following personnel actions have taken place in the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau's Commercial Wireless Division: Bill Kunze Named Deputy Chief Bill Kunze has been named Deputy Chief of the Commercial Wireless Division. He comes to the Commission from the consulting firm of McKinsey & Company and was previously an associate at Steptoe & Johnson and a law clerk to Chief Judge Gilbert Merritt on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in Nashville. Kunze holds B.A. and J.D. degrees from Yale University and an M.A. from the University of Chicago. Jeffrey Steinberg Named Deputy Chief Jeffrey Steinberg has been named Deputy Chief of the Commercial Wireless Division. Steinberg has served as Special Counsel to the Commercial Wireless Division since January 1997. He has also served as a Senior Attorney in the Wireless Bureau's Policy Division and as a Senior Attorney in the FCC's Cable Services Bureau. Before joining the FCC in January 1994, Steinberg was an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Sidley & Austin, and he was a law clerk to then-Judge Stephen Breyer on the U.S. Court of Appeals in Boston. Steinberg holds B.A. and J.D. degrees from Yale University. Suzan Friedman Named Deputy Chief, Policy and Rules Branch Suzan Friedman has been named Deputy Chief of the Commercial Wireless Division's Policy and Rules Branch. Prior to her current position Friedman served as Senior Attorney in the Mass Media Bureau's Enforcement Division since March 1997. She has also served as a Senior Attorney in the Common Carrier Bureau's Competitive Pricing Division. Friedman holds a B.A. from American University and a J.D. from the New England School of Law. Cyndi Thomas Named Deputy Chief, Policy and Rules Branch Cyndi Thomas has been named Deputy Chief of the Commercial Wireless Division's Policy and Rules Branch. Thomas began working as a staff attorney and team leader in the Policy and Rules Branch in August 1996. She has also served as a staff attorney in the Common Carrier Bureau's Policy and Program Planning Division. In addition to working at the FCC, Thomas has been Director of Regulatory Affairs at the Personal Communications Industry Association, and an associate in the Washington, D.C. offices of Dickstein, Shapiro, Morin & Oshinsky and Wilkinson, Barker, Knauer & Quinn. Finally, Thomas has several years of business management experience.
