August 12, 1994 Agenda for FCC Informational Auction Seminars on Broadband PCS - August 22-29, 1994 The FCC has scheduled seminars across the country to educate the public on the rules and procedures applicable to participation in auctions for licenses to provide Personal Communications Services in the 2 GHz band ("broadband PCS"). Broadband PCS is expected to introduce a variety of new mobile services that will be provided on an entire family of new communications devices that will include small, lightweight multi-function portable phones, portable facsimile and other imaging devices, new types of multi-channel cordless phones, and advanced paging devices with two-way data capabilities. Licenses will be offered in a series of three auctions. The first auction will be for the 99 available Major Trading Area (MTA) licenses on frequency blocks A and B. The seminars will take place on the following schedule (all times local): CHICAGO: Monday, August 22, 1994 - 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Marriott O'Hare Hotel DENVER: Wednesday, August 24, 1994 - 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Executive Tower Inn SAN FRANCISCO: Friday, August 26, 1994 - 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Hyatt Regency Hotel WASHINGTON: Monday, August 29, 1994 - 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Atlantic Studios, with satellite downlink sites in Atlanta (at the Georgia International Convention Center), Dallas (at the Fairmont Hotel), and Seattle (at the Westin Hotel). Each of the seminars will follow roughly the same format. A moderator will conduct each seminar, with experienced FCC staff members making brief presentations followed by a short question and answer period. An extended period for questions and answers will be provided at the conclusion of all the presentations. The August 29 seminar will be transmitted nationwide via satellite (SBS 6, Transponder 16).
