WASHINGTON, D.C. 20554 DA 98-552 News media information 202/418-0500 Fax-On-Demand 202/418-2830 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov ftp.fcc.gov Released: March 23, 1998 REGISTRATION PERIOD CLOSING FOR ANTENNA STRUCTURES As part of its ongoing efforts to promote air safety, the Federal Communications Commission (Commission) requires owners to register certain antenna structures (generally those more than 60.96 meters (200 feet) in height or located near an airport) with the Commission. In a Report and Order released November 30, 1995, the Commission adopted rules designed to streamline the registration process and began requiring antenna structure owners to register these structures with the Commission. The Commission established a two-year period (July 1996 to June 1998) for owners to register existing antenna structures. By June 30, 1998, owners must register all antenna structures that were built before July 1, 1996, and that are required to be registered. To facilitate the registration process, the Commission established filing windows based on geographic location. The following windows remain: March 1-31, 1998 -- KY, TN April 1-30, 1998 -- CT, NJ, SC May 1-June 30, 1998 -- TX Owners of antenna structures located outside these states who have not been granted waivers must register those structures immediately. Owners who have been granted waivers to register all of their antenna structures by a specific date are expected to comply with the time period set forth in those waivers. The Commission does not anticipate extending existing waivers, or granting waivers to owners who have missed their filing window and propose to submit registrations after the June 30, 1998, final deadline. Owners are also reminded that they must post the Registration Number for their structures in a conspicuous place on or adjacent to the structure so that the number is readily visible to the public. Antenna structure registrations may be filed electronically, using free interactive software available from the Commission, or by mail, using FCC Form 854. For further information, consult WTB Fact Sheet #15 and a newly posted list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the Antenna Structure Registration program at http://www.fcc.gov/wtb/antenna on the Internet. The Fact Sheet and copies of FCC Form 854 are also available from the Commission's Forms Distribution Center at 1-800-418-FORM (3676).
