10:00 am - 2:00 pm EDT
Commission Meeting Room (445 12th Street SW, Room TWC-305, Washington, DC

Washington D.C. – The Federal Communications Commission on October 28 will host a live and online tutorial on how to protect smartphones and other mobile devices – and the data on them – from theft and misuse. The event is timed to arm consumers with key information about how to protect themselves in advance of the upcoming holiday season when consumers could be at greater risk while shopping in crowded public locations and sales of mobile devices are high. The event will be held at 10 am in the Commission Meeting Room (445 12th Street SW, Room TWC-305, Washington, DC 20554).

As part of the Commission’s ongoing work to prevent the theft of mobile devices, subject matter experts will share:

  • useful information about the variety of safeguards that are available today to protect personal information
  • practical tips on how and where to most safely use a smart device
  • steps to take if your smart device is ever stolen

Members of the general public are invited to attend, learn from subject matter experts and participate in an interactive discussion. The Commission will also provide audio and video coverage of the discussion on the FCC’s Web page at https://www.fcc.gov/live.

Open captioning will be provided for this event. Other reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities are available upon request. Please include a description of the accommodation needed.
