In connection with their proposed merger, Media General Communications Holdings, LLC ("Media General") and New Young Broadcasting Holding Co., Inc. ("Young") have filed applications seeking Commission approval to transfer control of Young's fourteen full-power broadcast television stations and three low-power broadcast television stations and Media General's eighteen full-power broadcast television stations and fourteen low-power broadcast television stations. Upon consummation of the proposed transaction, the current equity holders of Young Broadcasting and of Media General will own approximately 68.3% and 31.7%, respectively, of the merged company. The parties also request renewal of three existing waivers of the local television multiple ownership rules.

Media General owns full-power broadcast television stations in the following cities: Birmingham, Alabama; Mobile, Alabama; Tampa, Florida; Augusta, Georgia; Columbus, Georgia; Savannah, Georgia; Hattiesburg, Mississippi; Jackson, Mississippi; Asheville, North Carolina; Goldsboro, North Carolina; Greenville, North Carolina; Florence, South Carolina; Charleston, South Carolina; Spartanburg, South Carolina; Johnson City, Tennessee; Roanoke, Virginia; Columbus, Ohio; and Providence, Rhode Island. Young owns full-power broadcast television stations in the following cities: San Francisco, California; Davenport, Iowa; Lafayette, Louisiana; Adams, Massachusetts; Lansing, Michigan; Albany, New York; Rapid City, South Dakota; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Reliance, South Dakota; Florence, South Dakota; Petersburg, Virginia; and Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The applications have been accepted for filing upon initial review, as listed in a Public Notice issued July 9, 2013. Petitions to deny are due August 8, 2013.

This is a restricted proceeding. Ex parte presentations are generally prohibited. See section 1.1208 of the Commission's Rules, 47 C.F.R. § 1.1208. An ex parte presentation is any written communication addressing the merits or outcome of the proceeding that is not served on all of the parties to the proceeding, or any oral presentation addressing the merits or outcome of the proceeding that is made without notice to all of the parties to the proceeding and without an opportunity for them to be present. See section 1.1202(a)(b), 47 C.F.R. § 1.1202.(a), (b). However, persons may submit signed, informal objections. See section 73.3587,47 C.F.R. § 73.3587.
