U.S. Senator Tom Harkin, Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler, and Assistant Secretary of Labor Kathy Martinez, will participate in the M-Enabling Summit June 9-11 in Washington, D.C. underlining the increasing importance of the role played by mobile technologies for the full inclusion of seniors and persons with disabilities in all sectors of society.

 

On June 9th, the FCC’s Chairman Tom Wheeler will be the keynote speaker and presenter of the FCC’s Chairman’s Awards for Advancement in Accessibility at 5:15 p.m. at the M-Enabling Summit. On June 10th at 8:30 a.m., Senator Tom Harkin, Sponsor of the Americans with Disabilities Act, will discuss the importance of Disability Rights and international cooperation in the context of global technology markets.  And on June 10th at 3:30 p.m., Assistant Secretary of Labor Kathy Martinez will preside over the conclusions of the third M-Enabling Summit.

 

On June 9th, the M-Enabling Summit will also hold a session on the 21st Century

Communication and Video Accessibility Act led by Karen Peltz Strauss, FCC Deputy Bureau Chief,

Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau.  This will be complemented by an all-day in-depth session for international delegates on policy and technology developments in the United States and internationally on June 11th with FCC staff at the FCC’s Headquarters (445 12th Street, S.W./Washington D.C.).

 

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) co-hosts the M-Enabling Summit, in cooperation with the Global Initiative for Inclusive Information and Communication Technologies

(G3ict). Dedicated to promoting innovation in mobile accessibility solutions the Third M- Enabling Summit features 160 speakers including executives from Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, IBM, Adobe Systems, LinkedIn, The Gartner Group, HP, IDC, PayPal, EZ Fire, the Consumer Electronics Association, Deque Systems, CTIA-The Wireless Association, the Telecommunications Industry Association, Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, RNIB, Orange Group, the DAISY Consortium, Intel-GE Care Innovations, eBay, SSB BART Group, Comcast, the Paciello Group, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, Disney SyncLink Technology, TDI – Telecommunications for the Deaf, Georgia Tech, the American Foundation for the Blind, the Assistive Technologies Industry Association (ATIA), AAPD, RESNA, the National Association of the Deaf, The Viscardi Center,

Wells Fargo, Doro AB, Panasonic, ClickAndGo Wayfinding Maps, Visus Technology and a number of developers of innovative mobile enabled accessibility solutions.

 

The first two days of the Summit, June 9-10th, will take place at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, VA while the international briefing session dedicated to international delegates of the Summit will take place at FCC Headquarters.
