“This page is a digitally archived AccessInfo Announcement”

On May 16, 2012, the Media Bureau released a public notice requesting comment on two petitions filed by the Digital Media Association (DiMA). DiMA requests a temporary exemption or waiver of certain provisions of the new Internet protocol closed captioning requirements.

In the first petition, DiMA requests a temporary exemption or waiver until January 1, 2014, from the requirement that applications, plug-ins, or devices provided by video programming distributors (VPDs) comply with the user configuration and formatting requirements of the Commission’s closed captioning rules.

In the second petition, DiMA requests a temporary exemption or waiver until January 1, 2014, from the rule that relates to rendering, but not the pass-through, of captions. The exemption or waiver would apply to VPDs that do not currently provide closed captioning.
