On January 27, 2022, the FCC invited comments on proposed new rules that would require broadband providers to display easy-to-understand labels to allow consumers to comparison shop for broadband services.
In this Notice for Proposed Rulemaking, the FCC also emphasized its commitment to ensuring that broadband networks are accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities. The FCC seeks comment on whether the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements and the guidance developed by the Web Accessibility Initiative would provide the best likelihood of ensuring that consumers with disabilities will be able to access necessary information about broadband services. The FCC also seeks comment how best to ensure that any required labels are accessible to persons with disabilities.
