On November 19, 2015, the FCC released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) seeking comment on several proposals designed to ensure that all Americans have the capability to receive timely and accurate alerts. Specifically, the NPRM seeks comment on ways to improve the clarity of emergency alerting message received on wireless handsets and to ensure that these alerts reach only those individuals to whom an alert is relevant. This NPRM also seeks comment on ways to ensure that WEA keeps pace with evolving technologies.

Comments and reply comments are due 30 and 60 days after December 14, 2015, the day the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was published in the Federal Register. Accordingly, comments must be filed on or before January 13, 2016, and reply comments must be filed on or before February 12, 2016.
