On October 30, 2015, the FCC released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to update hearing aid compatibility (HAC) standards, make the wireline HAC rule applicable to VoIP, adopt a wireless handset volume control rule, and streamline HAC standards setting while providing for consumer input.

Comments and reply comments are due 60 and 90 days after December 28, 2015, the day the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was published in the Federal Register. Accordingly, comments must be filed on or before February 26, 2016, and reply comments must be filed on or before March 28, 2016.
