On October 29, 2020, the FCC announced the effective dates of several new telecommunications relay services (TRS) rules that were recently approved by the Office of Management and Budget. New FCC rules for three Video Relay Service (VRS) programs became effective on October 23, 2020, including requirements and rules relating to: (1) authorizations for direct video calling (DVC); (2) registration of enterprise (business) and public videophones; and (3) the VRS at-home call handling program. In addition, wired relay services will be required to comply with the FCC’s dispatchable location rules for 911 TRS calls as of January 6, 2021, and mobile and portable relay services must comply with these rules as of January 6, 2022.
