“This page is a digitally archived AccessInfo Announcement”

Today, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has released the tentative agenda for the May Open Commission Meeting which includes important accessibility items for Americans with disabilities. The Chairman is proposing to extend and make permanent the National Deaf-Blind Equipment Distribution Program (also called iCanConnect), a program that helps low-income consumers who are deaf-blind have access to necessary communications equipment.  In addition, he is proposing that emergency information be made accessible to individuals who are blind or visually impaired when they are enjoying video programming at home on secondary screens (e.g., laptops and smartphones).  The Chairman wrote a blog about these action items.
