On July 6, 2017, the FCC adopted a four-year rate plan to compensate video relay service (VRS) providers, effective from July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2021.  In addition, in this order, the FCC:

  • Amends its rules to permit server-based routing for video calls handled by VRS providers (both relay and point-to-point);
  • Authorizes continued use of money from the TRS Fund for research and development;
  • Eliminates the requirement for the FCC to build a neutral video communications service platform; and
  • Sets a new effective date for the VRS Interoperability Profile.
