On August 30, 2022, the FCC issued a News Release announcing that it will conduct tests on September 12 and 13, 2022, with 42 state and local government agencies to assess the geographic accuracy, timeliness, and reliability of Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA).
The state and local governments will send a test of the WEA to the public in targeted areas and those who do receive the test will get a link to complete a survey about their receipt of the alert.
In an accompanying Order, the FCC explains the purpose of the tests and lists all of the targeted geographic areas. Backup dates are September 19 and 20.
