Introduction

Mapping Broadband Health in America is a novel, interactive mapping platform created by the Connect2HealthFCC Task Force. From its initial launch and through various updates and expansions, the platform remains a critical resource for users to visualize, intersect and analyze broadband and health data at the national, state and county levels, providing compelling insights on opportunities and gaps in the connected health space. By using the mapping platform as a foundation for understanding the intersection of broadband and health, policymakers and other stakeholders can chart a concrete path to a more connected and healthier future for all Americans. Starting in June 2023 and in response to the Data Mapping to Save Moms’ Lives Act (leaves FCC.gov, opens PDF file in new browser window), the platform now visualizes maternal health data, including maternal mortality, severe maternal morbidity, maternity care deserts, mental health provider shortages, and maternal age.

You are in OVERVIEW. The current map displays geographies where broadband and health coincide to identify those areas where broadband can be leveraged to help address the maternal health crisis. Use the dropdowns and sliders to select the broadband and maternal health variables of interest. You can then filter by rurality, maternal age, and race/ethnicity. To learn more about the specific variables, click the icon next to the variable’s name, or visit the Data page. To explore broadband as a function of maternal health, visit the BROADBAND view. To explore maternal health as a function of broadband, visit the MATERNAL HEALTH view.
