On February 22, 2013, the FCC’s Consumer and Governmental Affairs issued a Public Notice seeking comment on 51 state applications (including District of Columbia and U.S. territories) for certification for the provision of telecommunications relay service (TRS) covering traditional TTY relay service, captioned telephone service

and speech-to-speech relay service.

Current state certifications are set to expire on July 25, 2013. Each state’s application for certification must show that its TRS program continues to meet the FCC’s requirements in order to receive a new certification for the five year period from July 26, 2013 to July 25, 2018.
