This is the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC’s) report on telephone subscribership in the United States, presenting subscribership statistics based on the Current Population Survey (CPS) conducted by the Census Bureau in July 2001. Statistics from that survey estimated that 95.1% of all households in the United States had telephone service. This is the highest penetration level ever reported. That level represents a 0.5% increase over the previous survey in March 2001, a change that is statistically significant. The report also shows subscribership levels by state, income level, race, age, household size, and employment status.
