The third annual M-Enabling Summit on accessible mobile technology for senior citizens and users of all abilities will be held June 9-10, 2014 at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, VA.  The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will co-host the M-Enabling Summit, in cooperation with the Global Initiative for Inclusive Information and Communication Technologies (G3ict).  FCC’s Chairman Tom Wheeler will be the keynote speaker and presenter of the FCC’s Chairman’s Awards for Advancement in Accessibility on June 9 at 5:00 p.m. at the M- Enabling Summit.

 

The Summit, which will run under the theme “Accessibility: A Driver for Mobile Innovation,” will be entirely dedicated to reviewing how to best promote and implement accessible mobile communications and services for senior citizens and persons of all abilities.  Supported by major disability and senior organizations, as well as industry associations and the private sector, the Summit is expected to attract hundreds of participants from more than 40 countries, underlining the global scope of new mobile opportunities for users and developers alike.

 

The Summit’s program will focus on accessibility innovations, with 150 speakers, private sector leaders, apps developers, policy makers, mobile accessibility experts and disability advocates sharing their knowledge and experience.  Confirmed presenters as of March 31st include representatives of leading organizations facilitating the accessible technology market, including executives from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), CTIA-The Wireless Association, the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, DAISY Consortium, EZFire, Intel-GE Care Innovations, eBay, SSB BART Group, Adobe Systems, PayPal, Amazon, Comcast, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, LinkedIn, The Gartner Group, IBM, Microsoft, the American Foundation for the Blind, the National Association of the Deaf, Wells Fargo, DORO, Samsung, Panasonic and a number of developers of mobile enabled accessibility solutions.

 

Experts will discuss accessibility solutions for mobile application areas such as special education, financial services, travel and tourism, veterans, emergency services, smart homes, and e- government, as well as mobile assistive solutions for people who are deaf and hard of hearing, blind or with physical or cognitive disabilities.

The M-Enabling Summit will hold a session on the 21st Century Communication and Video Accessibility Act on June 9th led by Karen Peltz Strauss, FCC Deputy Bureau Chief, Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, complemented by an all -day in depth session on policy and technology developments in the United States and internationally on Jun 11th at the FCC’s Headquarters.
