BENEFITS OF ACE DIRECT OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE
The FCC chose open source because it offers a number of benefits, including:
Use high-speed broadband and your own internal networks without compromising security or facing potential barriers created by firewalls. And with more people testing the code itself, open source bugs and vulnerabilities are typically found and fixed far more quickly than those in proprietary software.
Because the code is open, businesses and organizations can modify it to get the specific functionality they desire to meet their needs.
Open source software is typically more flexible and has fewer limitations, allowing it to be interoperable with most computers and users.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) brought together TRS/VRS users, software developers, engineers, technologists and the Deaf community together to develop ACE Direct. This is in response to the needs of people who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or speech-disabled and is part of the Accessible Communications for Everyone (ACE) initiative.
