The following are three related announcements regarding public safety issues being addressed by the FCC: 

  1. April 13, 2018 Workshop on Critical Info During Disasters -  April 13, 2018, the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau will host a workshop at the FCC’s headquarters to identify the communication and information needs of government agencies and consumers to enhance disaster preparedness and improve FCC support to response and recovery efforts.  Workshop panelists from the disability community will include:
  • Lisa Montalvo, President, Latino Deaf and Hard of Hearing Association in Metropolitan Area of DC
  • Howard Rosenblum, CEO, National Association of the Deaf
  • Tony Stephens, Director of Advocacy & Governmental Affairs, the American Council of the Blind
  1. Report and Recommendations Concerning Hawaii’s January 13, 2018 False Emergency Alert – On April 10, 2018, the FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau released a report and recommendations concerning the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency's January 13, 2018, False Emergency Alert.  The report discusses the impact of the false alert on individuals, including persons attending a National Association of the Deaf board meeting, who were present in Hawaii at the time of the alert.  
  1. May 15, 2018 Emergency Alerting Roundtable -  In response to its Report and Recommendations on the Hawaii false emergency alert, the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau will host a public roundtable on emergency alerting best practices on May 15, 2018.  The goal of the roundtable is to share lessons learned and help encourage awareness and understanding of best practices, as well as to promote a continued dialogue among stakeholders.  The roundtable will be held at the FCC’s headquarters.
