On June 16, 2020, the Competitive Carriers Association (CCA), on behalf of six CCA members, filed a petition requesting an extension of the June 30, 2020 deadline for termination of waivers of the FCC rule requiring carriers to support TTY devices on Internet-Protocol based voice networks and instead to support real-time text (RTT).

On January 12, 2022, the FCC dismissed the requests of two of the six providers covered by the petition, Inland Cellular and Nsightel Wireless, LLC (Cellcom).  In each case, the FCC determined that the waivers of TTY-support rules were not necessary because the two providers had not deployed an IP-based voice network without deploying RTT.
