Jonathan Levy, as Acting Chief Economist, is based in OSP but – on economic issues – reports directly to the Chairman. Jonathan previously served as Deputy Chief Economist. In addition, he is a senior economist in OSP, where his primary activities have been the analysis of competition in broadcasting and multichannel video programming distribution markets and the review of proposed changes in government regulation of the mass media – in particular broadcasting, cable television, and satellite television. He has had principal staff responsibility for a number of FCC reports and notices on home satellite dish issues. Jonathan also has participated in the design and implementation of FCC spectrum auctions in the Direct Broadcast Satellite and other services. Prior to joining the FCC in 1980, Jonathan taught economics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University. In 1993, Jonathan was a Fulbright Senior Scholar in the School of Humanities at the University of Technology Sydney studying US-Australian trade in television programming and film.
