Each May we celebrate Older Americans Month and honor our nation’s Seniors by recognizing their many contributions to their communities and to our country.  This year’s theme is Unleash the Power of Age, and the FCC’s Consumer Affairs and Outreach Division is excited to join the celebration by hosting a half-day workshop entitled How the Internet Can Benefit Older Americans! The workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 24th from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at the FCC’s Headquarters in Southwest Washington (445 12th St., SW).  For those who cannot attend in person, a portion of the workshop will be streamed and available online www.fcc.gov/live.

We’ve put together a fun, informative and interactive program and are encouraging area Seniors, through local Senior Centers and Senior groups, to attend.  So that we can help Unleash the Power of Age, the FCC is looking to empower Older Americans by demonstrating that computers and the Internet are indeed relevant to them.  Our speakers and presenters, who have years of experience working with older adults, will talk about the many benefits and opportunities the Internet can offer.  Seniors will learn about safe computing practices, and will hear how the Internet holds the promise of improving and enhancing their quality of life; strengthening their relationships; expanding their social circle; and improving their health and well-being.  The workshop will also include several hands-on, interactive technology exhibits, and we’ve set aside a portion of the program so that attendees will have an opportunity to engage with the exhibitors and the Senior-friendly technology.

For those who recognize the value of the Internet and are eager to bridge the digital divide, we’ll close our program by telling Seniors how they can go about finding local computer training and how they may be eligible to receive discounted Internet Service.

Join us for this fun and exciting morning, and together we can Unleash the Power of Age!
