PURPOSE AND FUNCTIONS OF THE COMMITTEE
The Committee was established in November 2000 to make recommendations to the Commission regarding consumer issues within the jurisdiction of the Commission and to facilitate the participation of consumers (including people with disabilities and underserved populations, such as Native Americans and persons living in rural areas) in proceedings before the Commission. The Committee is presently in its seventh two-year term.
Issues or questions to be considered by the CAC may include, but are not limited to, the following topic areas:
- Consumer protection and education;
- Implementation of Commission rules and consumer participation in the FCC rulemaking process;
- Access by people with disabilities; and
- Impact of new and emerging technologies.
The Committee is organized under, and operates in accordance with, the provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, 5 U.S.C. App. 2 (1988). Each meeting of the Committee is open to the public. A notice of each meeting will be published in the Federal Register at least fifteen (15) days prior to each meeting. Records will be maintained of each meeting and made available for public inspection.
MEETING DATE, TIME & AGENDA
The next meeting of the Committee will take place on Friday, July 25, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Commission’s headquarters building, Commission Meeting Room, Room TW-C305, 445 12th Street, S.W., Washington, DC 20554.
At its July 25, 2014 meeting, the Committee is expected to consider a recommendation from its Universal Service Working Group concerning interagency coordination relative to the Lifeline program and broadband adoption. The Committee’s Consumer Protection Working Group is also expected to present for consideration a recommendation regarding stolen mobile devices. The Committee may also consider other recommendations from its working groups, and may receive briefings from FCC staff and outside speakers on matters of interest to the Committee. A limited amount of time will be available on the agenda for comments from the public. The meeting is open to the public, and the site is fully accessible to people using wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Sign language interpreters, open captioning, assistive listening devices, and Braille copies of the agenda and committee roster will be provided on site. Meetings of the Committee are also broadcast live with open captioning over the Internet from the FCC Live web page at www.fcc.gov/live/.
