Application For Assignment of Pacific Wireless Technologies, Inc.'s 800 MHz Stations to Nextel Communications, Inc.>

Background

Pacific Wireless Technologies, Inc. (“Pacific Wireless”) and Nextel Communications, Inc. (“Nextel”) have filed the following application under Section 310(d) of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, seeking Commission approval to assign 188 licenses from Pacific Wireless to Nextel (the "Application"). The majority of these licenses are licensed in the Specialized Mobile Radio (“SMR”) service. Some are licensed to the Business or Industrial/Land Transportation service, and these licenses are in the process of being converted to the SMR service. The service rules applicable to all of the licenses involved in the proposed transaction are found in Part 90 of the Commission’s rules.

The Application has been found, upon initial review, to be acceptable for filing. The Commission reserves the right to return the Application if, upon further examination, it is determined to be defective and not in conformance with the Commission's rules or policies.

Interested parties may file comments or petitions to deny no later than September 13, 2001. Oppositions may be filed no later than September 24, 2001. Replies may be filed no later than September 28, 2001. All filings concerning matters referenced in this Public Notice should refer to DA 01-1931 as well as the specific file number of the individual application or other matter to which the filing pertains.
