Application of Alltel Communications, Inc. and Cellco Partnership dba Verizon for FCC Consent to Assign Licenses

Background

On November 13, 2000, Alltel Communications, Inc. ("Alltel") and Cellco Partnership dba Verizon ("Verizon") filed an application pursuant to Section 310(d) of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, 47 U.S.C. § 310(d), seeking Commission approval for the assignment of twenty D-Block and E-Block broadband Personal Communications Services ("PCS") licenses currently held by Alltel to Verizon. No more than 10 MHz of spectrum would be assigned to Verizon in any one market. The spectrum at issue is not yet in operation, but will be used to provide voice and data services to subscribers. Approval would allow Verizon to expand its national coverage in Alabama, Georgia, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
