“This page is a digitally archived AccessInfo Announcement”

On December 23, 2013, the FCC’s Media Bureau released a reminder about an upcoming deadline for compliance with the closed captioning requirements on certain devices used to show video programming delivered using Internet protocol (IP).  The IP Closed Captioning Order, released on January 13, 2012, requires specific closed captioning capabilities on these devices used to view video programming, such as digital video recorders, smartphones, tablets, personal computers, and television set-top boxes.  Certain devices that are manufactured on or after January 1, 2014 must be in compliance with these captioning rules.
