On December 22, 2016, the FCC released a Public Notice requesting comment on a petition filed by Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (Honda).  Honda is requesting a 20-month waiver of the accessibility requirements for “rear entertainment systems” on certain Honda vehicles.

These accessibility requirements apply to devices that receive or play back video programming, such as rear entertainment systems, that are manufactured on or after December 20, 2016.  For example, on-screen text menus or other visual indicators used for the play back or display of video programming must be audibly accessible to individuals who are blind or visually impaired, if achievable.  Also, devices with built‐in closed captioning or video description capability must include a simple and easy-to-use activation method for those features.

Comments may be filed by accessing the Electronic Comment Filing System at https://www.fcc.gov/ecfs/filings and inserting the docket number MB Docket No. 12-108.
