2.5 GHz Rural Tribal Maps

To assist in determining if spectrum is available in your area, maps of each Eligible Rural Tribal Land have been created. These maps depict the general availability of spectrum within the respective area.

Tribal Lands

To find a specific Tribal Land of interest, either scroll down the alphabetical list, or simply begin typing in the search box to filter the list based on your search. Once you have found your Tribal Land of interest, click on the corresponding link in the middle column, “Link to Priority Window Rural Tribal Land Map,” to open the mapping tool to that Tribal Land.  The requested map will open in a new tab or window.

Heat Maps

Once you have opened the Map Tool, you will see the area of your selected Tribal Land, and the surrounding area. Each of the checkboxes on the right represents a “layer” of data that can be depicted on the map. To zoom to only the selected tribal lands, use the query tool located at the right of the screen, and then select the checkbox that corresponds to the information you wish to see. For example, select the “Eligible Rural Tribal Lands” box to see the outline of Tribal Lands eligible for the Rural Tribal Window. Select “Channel 1 (or 2, or 3)Existing Licensees” box to see, for each of the three channels, a color “heat map” of where spectrum is already assigned to existing licensees on these lands.  The “heat map” is color coded, and a lighter color indicates less spectrum assigned to existing licensees, as noted in the legend to the right of the map.  Areas in the lightest yellow depict where none of the spectrum in the selected channel has been assigned to existing licensees (and, therefore, indicates that the entire selected channel will be available in the Priority Window).  Areas in the darkest red depict where all of spectrum in the selected channel has been assigned to existing licensees (and therefore indicates that none of the spectrum in that selected channel will be available in the Priority Window).

To see more detailed information for any location on the map, right click on the map at a point of interest, and a “pop-up box” will appear.  If the area is tribal, you will see a box which includes information regarding the tribal area as well as each existing license (if any) at that location/in that area.  If you click on the “>” key on top of the pop-up box, you will be able to move through these boxes to get additional information.  Each license box lists the aggregate amount of spectrum assigned to all existing licenses for a particular channel in the specified area.  The amount of unassigned spectrum is the total amount of spectrum in that channel minus the aggregate amount of spectrum assigned to all existing licensees in that channel.  The “more information” link in the pop-up box connects to the ULS record for that license,  which includes the name of the licensee and the exact amount of spectrum held/already assigned to that licensee in that location.

Entire Map

You can go directly to the entire map by clicking “View Entire Map.” Once there, you can explore the entire map, and move to any other area or state, simply by using the Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons in the top left of the map, and by clicking and dragging the map to move to other areas.

This mapping tool can be used by Tribal entities to help them assess whether and to what extent there is unassigned 2.5 GHz spectrum available over their eligible Tribal lands. The mapping tool provides a high-level view of spectrum availability and allows users to link to the FCC’s Universal Licensing System (ULS) to confirm the exact amount of eligible spectrum available. It can also be used to determine where tribal applications have been submitted.
